Brentford ended a seven-game winless run to give caretaker manager Nicky Forster a debut win against financially stricken Plymouth.
Plymouth went close when Rory Fallon's well-hit drive beat Bees keeper Richard Lee but came back off the crossbar.
Myles Weston gave the hosts the lead when he headed home Sam Saunders's expert delivery.
And Weston notched his second with a superb curled finish following Charlie MacDonald's mazy dribble.
