Brighton's lead at the top of League One was reduced to one point after they were frustrated by Leyton Orient.
The Seagulls' Matt Sparrow had a first-time volley saved by home goalkeeper Jamie Jones, while Glenn Murray also fired wide and Craig Noone shot over.
Orient, who lost 5-0 at Brighton last month, could have claimed a victory but Alex Revell curled an effort just wide.
Dean Cox also had an opportunity for the hosts but his shot was tipped over the bar by Brighton's Casper Ankergren.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "We didn't look like a good technical team today. The pitch played a big part because no-one could control the ball. I think it was the worst game we've been involved with this season. It was awful.
"There was nothing in the game. It was important the team realised it, kept a clean sheet and got something from the game.
"We tried to change a couple of things but it didn't work. It was a terrible game. I don't like to apologise to fans but it wasn't at all emotional for me."
