James Berrett converted a late penalty as Carlisle came from behind to earn a point against Oldham.
The Cumbrians trailed 2-0 at half-time after an unmarked Aiden White slotted home from close range before turning provider for Chris Taylor to head in.
Francois Zoko turned in Ben Marshall's low cross to give the hosts hope.
Zoko was then awarded a contentious penalty after the assistant referee ruled he had been fouled by Paul Black and Berrett kept his cool to level.
Oldham Athletic player-manager Paul Dickov told BBC Radio Manchester: "I thought we were excellent. I thought first half especially we played some great stuff, scored two really good goals and possibly it could have been more.
"The referee said he couldn't see it (the penalty) so he's taken the word of his linesman, but we were standing 40 yards away and could see it was outside the box.
"We played ever so well for long periods in the game but up until they've scored there goal Ben (amos) hasn't had a save to make."
