Colchester goalkeeper Ben Williams produced a fine display to help earn his side a point against Huddersfield.
The home side's Lee Novak fired wide from close range and David Mooney went close with a shot for the U's as both sides looked to take the lead.
Kayode Odejayi nearly found the breakthrough for the visitors, but his looping header drifted over the bar.
Lee Peltier and Joey Gudjonsson were both well kept out by Williams, as the U's secured a draw.
Colchester United manager, John Ward told BBC Essex: "I think we have had some good chances to win it and we know we had to defend well here.
"We knew that Huddersfield would be smarting after missing out on an opportunity to go to Wembley.
"I thought both goalkeepers played very very well."
