Onismor Bhasera scored at both ends as Plymouth ended a run of three straight defeats to beat MK Dons.
Bhasera finished off a swift breakaway with a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box after 22 minutes.
Kari Arnason sliced wide from close range, but made amends soon after with a 35-yard shot in off the crossbar.
Six minutes before the break, Bhasera slid Danny Woodards' cross into his own net, but Chris Clark made sure after a cut-back from substitute Jim Paterson.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio: "We're going to have days where we don't turn up at the office, but one thing I can promise is that people are always going to work hard.
"They did that but I just don't think they had that cutting edge.
"We didn't get the ball wide often enough, we didn't hit the diagonal enough, we made too many small passes."
Plymouth Argyle manager Peter Reid told BBC Radio Devon: "We got what we deserved in my opinion, as it was a thoroughly good performance and it's a big boost for the players.
"The players showed plenty of character and plenty of spirit, and I'm pleased for them more than anyone, but we've still got a long way to go.
"You won't see three better goals, all three were terrific and with strikes like that you deserve to win football matches."
