Jamie McCombe headed a late winner as Huddersfield Town came from behind to earn a deserved win over League One leaders Brighton and move up to third.
Seagulls striker Glenn Murray saw a first-half penalty saved by goalkeeper Alex Smithies but he poked them ahead from close range after the break.
But Jordan Rhodes equalised with a header from a teasing Gary Roberts free-kick moments later.
And McCombe nodded the winner following a deflected shot from Joey Gudjonsson.
McCombe's 83rd-minute looping header - his fifth goal of the season - capped a fine display by the hosts in a fiery match which saw players from both sides square up to each other on the final whistle.
Brighton's frustration will no doubt have stemmed from their failure to stretch their lead at the top of the table, with Charlton - who were in second before the day's games - not in action.
But the visitors seemed on be track to gain a confidence-boosting win after a lively 10-minute spell either side of the break.
Murray's failure from the spot after he was felled by Peter Clarke was the best chance of the opening period.
Chris Wood then hit the outside of the post for Brighton after the interval but Murray shrugged off his penalty miss to grab the opener from close range on 54 minutes.
The lead lasted barely two minutes as Huddersfield's Rhodes scored his fourth goal in three games with a powerful header and McCombe completed the comeback late on.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "It's very hard to take. It was a game we planned for well. We knew it would be difficult and we coped well.
"The noise of this beautiful stadium got into the head of the referee. He started making decisions like he was at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge.
"People are trying to make us think we're in a bad spell but we're not. We're okay. With a normal referee today we'd win the game. I can not take penalties and I can not referee. I'd love to. If I did we'd win for sure."
