Oldham were unable to make the most of a bright start as Rochdale hit back to earn a deserved point at Spotland.
Cedric Evina got the Latics off to a flying start when he arrowed a low shot into the bottom corner from 18 yards.
The home side roared back and were level when Matt Done knocked the ball home from inside the six-yard box.
Dale bossed the second half but could not find a way past keeper Dean Brill, who made a spectacular point-blank save from a Nicky Adams header.
Rochdale captain Gary Jones told BBC Radio Manchester: "I think it was quite an entertaining game between two teams that wanted to win.
"In the second half I think we completely dominated the game - on another day we may have taken three points.
"The team have been doing well this season, we just haven't had the rub of the green."

Oldham boss Paul Dickov told BBC Radio Manchester: "We say it every week and it's a cliché but goals change games, we made one mistake in the first half and they've scored from it.
"I've got to be happy with a point because we played well in the first-half, and second-half they did put us under a bit of pressure.
"We're in a good position at the moment, we feel that we should be higher up in the table with the performances we've put in but it's not meant to be"
