Neil Mellor bagged a hat-trick of headers as Sheffield Wednesday emphatically saw off MK Dons.

Mark Carrington put the hosts in front with a good low finish into the corner.

Chris Sedgwick crossed for Mellor to notch his first before Luke Chadwick diverted Mellor's cut-back into his own net to put the visitors in front.

Mellor scored his second from Gary Teale's centre before completing his hat-trick with a glancing header from Tommy Spurr's corner.

MK Dons manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio:
"It was a strange game, the result is the most important thing obviously.

"The fact it was a 4-1 defeat I'm not happy with, it's there, it's in the history books and it's one we've got to accept.

"When our first one went in I didn't celebrate because I knew it was going to be a tough 85 minutes to go."

Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"Very good. Great performance over all.

"We had a setback and full marks to the players, they didn't get their heads down at that point

"The result was a reward for everything they've done. Not Just for today but for recent weeks."
