Marcos Painter's injury time own goal rescued a point for Bristol Rovers at League One leaders Brighton.
Byron Anthony headed Rovers in front from Stuart Campbell's corner before the Seagulls drew level when Jeff Hughes chested into his own net.
Debutant Chris Wood put Albion ahead from the spot after Anthony tripped Glenn Murray inside the area.
The visitors piled on the pressure in stoppage time and were duly rewarded when Painter headed into his own net.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "We have not been ourselves for the last three or four games. We need to get back to the way that we play and make sure we are in control of the game.
"I've got no problem with giving credit to Bristol for how they played. If we'd played them two months ago and we were 2-1 up with eight minutes to go I can promise you they wouldn't have touched the ball. We got punished and we got what we deserved.
"The referee wasn't at fault for the result today, let me make that clear, but he didn't stop talking to the players.
"We are not in a class at school, we are on a football pitch. He needs to stop talking and play. Every single action he's talking, he's like a teacher at school."
