Sheffield Wednesday grabbed their third successive victory with two second-half goals against Rochdale.
The visitors started well, with Nicky Weaver saving well from Joe Thompson and Gary Jones.
Neil Mellor hit the bar with a header from Clinton Morrison's cross as Wednesday started to press.
The hosts took the lead through Giles Coke's shot from the edge of the area before a Morrison header from Tommy Miller's chip secured the points.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's a very good win and a good performance from the players.
"They're a team that likes to pass the ball and we had to make sure that didn't happen here at Hillsborough.
"It was important that we tried to exploit the areas that Rochdale might be vulnerable and on a lot of occasions we did that."
Rochdale manager Keith Hill told BBC Radio Manchester: "We tried to get the crowd to work against them and I thought we kept great bouts of possession, but the only difference between the two sides were the decisions of Coke and Morrison.
"I'm really proud of my players for the effort they put in and not just the effort but the ability as well but today we've got to admit they were a bit better than us.
"If though I get more performances like that we'll win more games that we lose."
