Anthony Pilkington's superb individual effort condemned bottom-side Walsall to defeat at Huddersfield.
The Terriers earned the win with 10 men after Alan Lee was shown a red card for a suspected elbow on Manny Smith.
Pilkington, who has now scored six goals in five games, charged at the defence and fired in from 30-yards out.
The Saddlers saw Aaron Lescott's 25 yard effort well saved while Alex Nicholls should have done better with a free header in stoppage time.
Huddersfield Manager Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds: "When you go down to 10 men so early you always think it could be a horrible day, but the lads stuck together so well, showed determination and real desire.
"We showed we have creativity to get opportunities, we could have made it more than 1-0.
"Towards the end a little bit of nerves came in as they started throwing everything at us, but the experienced players are coming to the fore for us at the minute."
