Neil Mellor saved a draw for Sheffield Wednesday against Bournemouth, who moved up to second with their point.
The Cherries led in the first half when Ryan Garry met Rhoys Wiggins's corner at the near post and guided it across Owls goalkeeper Nicky Weaver.
Josh McQuoid could have doubled their lead but Weaver tipped his shot wide.
And the Owls salvaged a draw when Gary Teale caught Adam Smith in possession near half-way and put in a ball for Mellor to slide in from 12 yards.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I would be upset if anyone said I'd underestimate a team, and especially a team above you in the table. That's absolutely not the case and will never be the case.
"First half Bournemouth were the better team and in the second half we were the better team.
"There's no doubt the changes in personnel worked but the bigger thing for me was the change in our attitude and approach."
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent: "I thought we deserved to (win), but then I suppose on Monday you look the bigger picture, you've come to another tough place and got a good point.
"First half we moved and passed the ball really well, we're disappointed to concede and not take all three points.
"Individual performances, I could go through the whole team, some excellent performances and players really improving."
