Paul Benson's first goal for Charlton was enough to see off MK Dons and extend the Addicks' unbeaten run to four matches.
In a game of poor quality, both keepers were rarely tested.
Benson came close to heading the hosts in front just before half-time and Aaron Wilbraham nodded over soon after the break in a rare Dons attack.
But the deadlock was finally broken five minutes before time when Benson drilled home Kyel Reid's cross.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson told BBC Three Counties Radio: "Things were working for us but we're just lacking that bit of confidence in front of goal.
"For some unknown reason we've got wingers who want come inside and not give us the width and deliver.
"We've got forwards who want to come out of the box and get involved with the winger. Is that lacking confidence? Possibly, yes."
