John O'Flynn's double strike handed Exeter the points in a topsy-turvy clash with struggling Hartlepool.
Ryan Harley's superb individual effort gave the Grecians the lead before Ritchie Humphreys fired in the equaliser from 16 yards.
Pool took the lead two minutes later when Antony Sweeney poked home after Colin Larkin's header was saved.
O'Flynn then took centre-stage as he drilled past the keeper before sealing the win with a close-range header.
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon: "It was an entertaining game in which we've come out on top and I'm delighted with the way that we've played.
"We have only won one away game so we're not going to get too pleased with ourselves. There's a long season ahead in front of us before we start getting too pleased with ourselves.
"I'm very pleased with how it's shaping up and if the players can believe it at all times, like we do on the bench then maybe we'll do better this year."
Hartlepool United caretaker boss Mick Wadsworth tells BBC Tees: "The attacking side of our game was fantastic at times, we played some great football and created chances, but didn't take them all.
"The ease with which they got their goals was disappointing factor, but it's something we work on a daily basis.
"No player leaves training without having worked at that, it's their trade, their craft, it's what they do, so all we can do is work.".
