Southampton were held to a draw by Leyton Orient as both teams secured their first point of the season.
The Saints started brightly and after Lee Barnard had hit the bar, Ricky Lambert gave them the lead with a deflected 25-yard free-kick.
Orient equalised almost immediately though when Terrell Forbes headed home a Charlie Daniels corner.
Barnard struck the bar again for the Saints but Orient's determined defence held on to earn a deserved point.
Southampton manager Alan Pardew told BBC Radio Solent: "It was disappointing after such a brilliant start to the game, we probably played as well as we have ever played.
"The only thing that disappointed me today was the lack of push as a unit.
"In the group there were three or four below par, some senior players didn't step up to the plate"
Leyton orient manager Russell Slade told BBC London 94.9: "I thought we had to dig very deep, especially in the second half.
"In the opening fifteen minutes Southampton were on fire. They got the one goal and we managed to reply fairly quickly and stay in the game."
