Sheff Wed   1 - 0   Brighton

Giles Coke's first league goal for Sheffield Wednesday secured all three points for the Owls against Brighton.

Coke hit a superb curler from just inside the area after a lay-off from the impressive Marcus Tudgay.

Brighton came close to an equaliser when Jamie Smith clipped the bar following a cutback from Ashley Barnes.

But it was Wednesday who had the best of the chances and could have increased their lead when another Coke shot was tipped over by Casper Ankergren.

Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"The games are going to be very hard in this division.

"We're going to have to treat teams with a lot of respect and have to understand that we're not going to win games easily.

"I hope that the people don't get complacent, either in the dressing room or the fans in the ground"

Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex:
"It was an entertaining game with two interesting styles. The team that looked a little bit more mature won the game.

"We played decent football and I was surprised in terms of how the team coped with the game.

"We had three or four chances in the second half but we didn't finish. I didn't see their goalkeeper save one ball. I'm convinced we deserved better and didn't deserve to lose."
