Craig Westcarr scored the only goal as Notts County beat Dagenham & Redbridge to net their first win of the season.
The visitors started well and nearly went ahead when Josh Scott's low drive was well kept out by Stuart Nelson.
Scott went close again soon after when he saw his effort cannon back off the inside of the post.
The Daggers were made to pay for their missed chances though when Ben Davies set up Westcarr who beat the offside trap and coolly slotted home.
Notts County manager Craig Short told BBC Radio Nottingham: "It's a massive relief. The manor of defeat in the last few games has been poor.
"They showed a great deal of character and defended the goal well in the second half.
"I think they gave everything today and it is a massive relief."
