League One new boys Rochdale salvaged a point against Brighton with a stoppage-time equaliser from skipper Gary Jones.
Ex-Rochdale striker Glenn Murray headed home shortly after the break when his first header rebounded off the bar.
Jones's penalty drew Dale level after Brighton skipper Gordon Greer saw red for punching Anthony Elding.
Elliott Bennett's strike looked to have won it before Jones lobbed keeper Casper Ankergren from 20 yards in the third minute of added time.
Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "I think everybody would agree that we deserved to win, even with 10 men. If you make mistakes and give goals away so cheaply you're going to lose.
"On top of that you've got the referee who doesn't have a clue if the ball is in play or not. Put it all together, and it's 2-2.
"We've been training how to play being down to 10 just in case. The lads did exactly what we want as in training, we were excellent.
"We should be celebrating now and proud after a good performance but we gave two goals away."
Rochdale manager Keith Hill told BBC Radio Manchester: "I think we were playing against an excellent side. They are very pleasing on the eye and they've had a good start to the season.
"I'm really pleased to come away with a point and we've given ourselves something to build on.
"We've played two games in the league now and not been beaten so it's given us a foundation to set the rest of our season up."
