Julian Gray's cool finish earned Walsall victory and their first points of the season at Brentford.
The Saddlers took the lead from their first attack when hesitation in the home defence allowed Alex Nicholls to convert a long ball.
The Bees levelled just before the break when Gary Alexander headed home Robbie Simpson's cross.
But midfield man Gray clinched victory for the visitors when he swept Darren Byfield's centre into the net.
Brentford boss Andy Scott told BBC London 94.9:
"The stats will say the better team lost, but we've let in two goals and only scored one and made two really poor errors defensively.
"At the moment, I'm not taking any positives. No matter how good you are, you can't make stupid errors.
"If you give teams goals, you aren't going to win games, and the thing that bothers me is that it looks like we don't work on things defensively, but we spend hours practising those things."
