Sheffield Wednesday opened their League One account with a comfortable victory over last season's League Two play-off winners Dagenham & Redbridge.
Wednesday took an early lead after debutant Gilles Coke's shot deflected in off Daggers defender Scott Doe.
Fellow new-boy Clinton Morrison doubled the Owls' advantage two minutes later with a close-range finish.
Dagenham had plenty of possession but were unable to force Wednesday keeper Nicky Weaver into any notable action.
Dagenham and Redbridge boss John Still tells BBC London 94.9: "I thought it was a first-class performance, I thought in the second half we were the team more likely to score.
"I thought Scott Doe was the best performer on the pitch - he was first class.
"They never really had us on the rack and the only thing that was disappointing was in conceding a sloppy first goal. We'll learn our lessons that's for sure."
