A stunning strike from Elliott Bennett a minute before the break was enough to give Brighton victory over Yeovil.
Winger Bennett hit a tremendous 25-yard drive into the top corner following a crossfield pass by Alan Navarro.
Brighton goalkeeper Mitchell Walker had an impressive debut, saving from Dean Bowditch and Kieran Murtagh.
Yeovil's Scott Murray fired over the bar in the second half, while Brighton substitute Ashley Barnes forced Yeovil keeper Alex McCarthy to save well.
Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex:
"We planned to try to finish the season on a high and winning games, especially at home. I think the home supporters deserved a little bit more that what we gave this year.
"The last two or three months they can't complain too much because we've been very good.
"We asked the players to be professional enough to show the fans what we want to do next year. I think it was important to finish the season with a run of five or six games without losing."
Yeovil manager Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset:
"We had four or five players missing and we didn't come out of the traps and we didn't threaten enough.
"It's disappointing for the fans who that have travelled up because we prepared right, but there were a few people out there on their last legs.
"But from a point of view of the whole season the club has moved forward, if only by a couple of points."
