Tranmere remain in the League One relegation zone after losing out to a late Ben Strevens winner for Brentford.
Rovers had the best chance of the first half when Ian Thomas-Moore brought a fine save from Wojciech Szczesny.
But the Bees took the lead when Kevin O'Connor fired through a crowd of players and into the corner of the net.
Joss Labadie levelled, firing home at the second attempt after his free-kick was blocked, but Charlie MacDonald set up Strevens for a close-range winner.
Tranmere manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"It will go down in the records as another defeat, but we really couldn't have a go at the lads about the way they performed.
"We need two wins and we needed two wins from four games.
"Now we need two wins from three games, so now its starts to get difficult."
