Leeds ended a run of four successive defeats with victory at Yeovil to boost their automatic promotion hopes.
Richard Naylor's looping back-post header from a Jonny Howson cross gave United the lead with their first goal in over six hours of football.
Five minutes later, the Leeds captain doubled their advantage with another header from a Neil Kilkenny corner.
Dean Bowditch's low drive gave the home side renewed belief but despite further pressure the visitors held on.
Leeds manager Simon Grayson told BBC Radio Leeds: "We told the players we needed to win a game by whatever it takes, but I'm delighted with the way we played.
"We've got a group of players that can quite easily go and win seven on the trot.
"We've won one today, we're not getting carried away with it, but we know we've got a group of fixtures coming up that we can go and win."
Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset how he wants his side to end the season:
"We know the games we have to get points from now and I've set them the challenge of three wins from the last six.
"If there was an award for persistent fouling I think they [Leeds] would get it.
"We knew we would have to ride our luck on occasions - but perhaps not so many occasions."
