Millwall revived their hopes of automatic promotion with a battling win against play-off chasing Colchester.

Steve Morison put the Lions ahead with his 19th goal of the season in the first half after cutting in from the right and firing past Ben Williams.

Millwall goalkeeper David Forde then dropped the ball at the feet of Kevin Lisbie in comical fashion, with the striker taking advantage to equalise.

But substitute Danny Batth headed into his own net to ruin the hosts' day.

Millwall manager Kenny Jackett told BBC London 94.9:

"It was a great win for us, it was fantastic because Colchester put in a very committed and hi-tempo game.

"I didn't think there would be a lot of chances either end today, in such a tight and competitive game and that proved to be right.

"It's fantastic to be involved in the top end of what is a very good league."

Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex:

"You have to take the bones out of it and look at the performance. I thought the performance from start to end was absolutely superb.

"The first half we've created so many chances and made a very good team look very ordinary.

"It is a bitter pill to swallow, but it's very encouraging that we can play like that."
