Exeter edged closer to survival with a hard-earned point that leaves them three points above the drop zone.
Grecians keeper Paul Jones kept out a Leon Legge header early on, while Brentford defender Marcus Bean nodded over from just eights yards out.
Midfielder Ryan Harley fired a free-kick narrowly over for the visitors.
Defender Scott Golbourne could have nicked the points for the Devon side in the second half, however, he shot straight at keeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Brentford boss Andy Scott told BBC London 94.9:
"The last few games have been a real leg zapper for the lads.
"It's our eighth game in 23 days, it was a tough ask but we're unbeaten in the last six.
"It was a huge effort for the players and I think we can be proud of where we are."
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:
"I'm very pleased as it was a very good performance and we were under the cosh for the last 15 minutes.
"To make it seven games unbeaten shows that at the business end of the season we are certainly an effective team.
"It's going to be a real heads down towards now and the end of the season and we've just got to get the necessary points."
