Chris Martin grabbed a dramatic winner a minute from time to take Norwich 11 points clear at the top of League One and extend Leeds' miserable recent run.
The substitute striker headed home a perfect Stephen Hughes cross to take his side to the brink of promotion.
Leeds were marginally the better side without creating a real chance, Mike Grella shooting tamely.
To complete a desperate finale for the visitors, Tresor Kandol was sent off for an off-the-ball incident.
Norwich manager Paul Lambert told BBC Radio Norfolk:
"The amount of people that come and watch us we have to try and win more games than not.
"The lads were great - it was a really really hard game.
"In my own mind it was another game we had to try and win because there's still eight games to go.
"It puts the pressure on the teams below us."
