David Prutton struck a late equaliser to snatch a point for Colchester in a topsy-turvy match against Brentford.
The visitors stormed into a two-goal lead through David Hunt's 20-yarder and Leon Legge's header from a corner.
Hunt's own goal from Ian Henderson's cross helped the U's back into it, though, and Anthony Wordsworth headed the leveller just before half-time.
Charlie MacDonald low shot restored the Bees' lead, but Prutton turned in Kevin Lisbie's cross to secure a draw.
Colchester manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex: "Obviously disappointed with the daft three goals we gave away. It should have been a 3-0 home win and it took us 20 minutes to get going.
"We didn't start playing until we were 2-0 down but we got back into it and second half we had a real good go at it and then we get a situation where we get done by a daft goal and individual errors.
"We were chasing the game all night, and chasing the win at the end."
