Two stoppage-time goals put the seal on only Brighton's fourth home win of the season against 10-man Brentford.
The Seagulls lost Kazenga LuaLua to injury early on before Glenn Murray opened the scoring when he rose highest to head in Elliott Bennett's free-kick.
Brentford rarely threatened and the hosts made it 2-0 in the 91st minute when Adam Virgo looped in a header.
Alan Bennett then saw red for Brentford for deliberate handball, allowing Nicky Forster to fire a third from the spot.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "I prefer the team playing, the team believing in the best way to win for us to win games.
"We created chances, credit to the players and especially credit to the subs, the three of them really helped us out. I think it's important any chance they have.
"I know how hard the players work week in and week out for this football club."
