A first-half goal by Jeff Hughes was enough to help Bristol Rovers beat League one strugglers Stockport.
County left-back Adam Griffin mis-hit a pass across the penalty area allowing Hughes to steal the ball and fire in a low left-footed shot on the half-hour.
In a game with few glimpses of quality, the visitors came close with midfielder David Poole twice having shots blocked.
There was more misery for Poole when he was sent off for a second bookable offence in injury time.
Bristol Rovers manager Paul Trollope told BBC Radio Bristol:
"It certainly wasn't pretty, but we are thankful for the three points.
"There have been a lot of times in the last four years when I have said we've played well and passed the ball well - but then lost.
"We seem to have a bit more resilience about us and when you are not playing well it's important you can grind it out to get the win."
