Ian Goodison's second-half equaliser secured a valuable draw for struggling Tranmere at Southend.
Scott Vernon opened the scoring from the spot after Francis Laurent had been brought down by Zoumana Bakayogo.
But Tranmere hit back when Paul McLaren's corner from the left was volleyed in by Gareth Edds for Goodison to shoot into the top corner.
Ian Thomas-Moore could have won it for Rovers but was denied by a one-handed save by Southend's Steve Mildenhall.
Tranmere manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"You have to be pleased with a point when you come in at 1-0 down at half time.
"I think we would have been disappointed if we'd come away with nothing.
"If you take away their set-plays, I don't remember any other chances."
