Brighton climbed out of the League One relegation zone courtesy of a draw at home to promotion-chasing Huddersfield.
Anthony Pilkington went perilously close twice for the Terriers, first blazing over and then hammering a 40-yard free-kick against the bar late on.
Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies tipped over his own bar from team-mate Peter Clarke as Brighton went close.
The Seagulls nearly won it again when French winger Seb Carole blazed over late on, but the visitors held on.
Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds:
"It was scrappy from us tonight and Brighton put us under a lot of pressure at times.
"We were better in the second half and maybe we could have nicked a goal and nicked the three points.
"I don't think we are firing on all cylinders at the moment and we know successful teams have to grind out results."
Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex:
"We believe that we can do it every day, especially here. I'm sure that very soon this is going to change.
"It's one touch, one shot, one penalty, one decision from a ref, which is going to change this situation.
"Maybe the feeling is that we lost 2 points, but we did everything we can to win it."
