Antony Sweeney earned Hartlepool a point with an injury-time equaliser as Leeds missed the chance to draw level with Norwich at the top of League One.
Luciano Becchio hit the bar with a looping header before he opened the scoring with a shot from 12 yards.
Adam Boyd levelled with a fierce 20-yard volley before Becchio restored Leeds' advantage, tapping in after Lubo Michalik had headed against the bar.
But Sweeney hit back when he headed in after Boyd had flicked on a free-kick.
