Norwich ended a 57-year wait for an away win at Southend with an emphatic victory at Roots Hall.
Grant Holt scored after 68 minutes with a low strike beyond Steve Mildenhall after Korey Smith played him in.
Smith later connected with Chris Martin's centre and saw his shot deflected in off Scott Malone.
Holt struck again in stoppage time, scoring from the penalty spot after Alan McCormack had brought down Norwich substitute Luke Daley.
Southend United manager Steve Tilson told BBC Essex:
"They're a good side and I think they will be in the top two at the end of the season.
"They played some good football and we matched them for around 90 minutes, but it was a ten minute spell that killed us.
"We had some chances ourselves, but on another night we might have won."
Norwich manager Paul Lambert told BBC Radio Norfolk:
"It takes big players to come back when you've had a knock, and the expectancy levels at this club demand that we do that.
"Southend aren't just going to let us do what we want with the ball, their lads are honest, good professionals, it's a tough place to come.
"We have to earn the right to win football matches and all credit to the lads we kept on going."
