Two first-half goals ensured Colchester maintained their push for promotion with victory over Stockport, who suffered their sixth straight defeat.
Colchester took the lead the 10th minute as Kevin Lisbie headed his ninth goal of the season from close range.
The home side extended their lead five minutes later through Clive Platt after Kayode Odejayi's shot was saved.
John-Joe O'Toole came close to adding a third, but his stringing drive was well saved by Fon Williams.
Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex:
"It's a no-win situation, as we're expected to beat Stockport. We did and we didn't do it in a particularly great manner but it's a positive result.
"Considering the changes to the back four and being 2-0 up at half-time which is a difficult psychological score, we managed to keep another clean sheet and build."
