Steve Jones grabbed a first-half double as Walsall breezed past 10-man Exeter at the Banks's Stadium.
The Grecians trailed when Darren Byfield set up Jones to net the opener after 29 minutes.
Jones increased the lead when he ran clear and smashed a powerful shot past Andy Marriott.
Exeter then had Richard Duffy sent off for a second yellow card with 23 minutes left and Troy Deeney made it 3-0 firing home after a fine run.
Exeter City boss Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:
"Football is bizarre sometimes and we've lost a game 3-0, which we didn't deserve to draw, let alone lose.
"I feel very proud of the team, and the performance was excellent and at times outstanding.
"I feel quite satisfied with the week's work and the performance that we put in and sometimes that's all you can ask for."
