First-half goals by James Brown and Andy Monkhouse helped Hartlepool end Swindon's 11-game unbeaten run.
Brown headed home Pools' first goal after two minutes, meeting a floated cross by Adam Boyd.
And Monkhouse made it 2-0, finding space in the area before drilling his shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Swindon's only real chance of replying came through Tope Obadeyi's deflected header which was well saved by visiting goalkeeper Scott Flinders.
Swindon manager Danny Wilson told BBC Wiltshire:
"The performance was very poor today the worst we've had all season, we were second best in all departments.
"To concede a sloppy goal as early as we did always gives an incentive to the opposition and they took it very well.
"We never had that desire and determination you need to win football games."
