Southampton continued their impressive run of form with a win at Oldham.
Dean Hammond punished slack marking to head home at the far post from a Lloyd James corner to put the visitors ahead.
Rickie Lambert's long-range free-kick then squirmed through Oldham keeper Dean Brill before he clipped the cross bar with a shot from the centre circle.
Pawel Abbott pulled one back when he pounced after an Alex Marrow shot came off the post but David Connolly sealed Southampton's win with a fine finish.
Southampton manager Alan Pardew told BBC Radio Solent:
"We missed three of four big chances, hit the bar and then they got a goal and suddenly for ten minutes the game could have changed.
"If ever a player deserved a goal it was him [Connolly] because of the work he's put in to try and rebuild his professional career.
"Minus ten is a really tough psychological barrier. We broke that and since we broke it we've had three wins. The next target is to get out of that relegation zone."
