The pressure increased on Tranmere manager John Barnes after a humiliating defeat by Millwall.
James Henry got Millwall off the mark when he curled in a 20-yard free-kick before Andy Frampton and Steve Morison scored with headers.
Winger Henry unleashed a superb 25-yard drive to add Millwall's fourth after just 27 minutes.
And, after Tranmere's Marlon Broomes was sent-off after a second booking, Henry scored a free-kick for his third.
Millwall assistant manager Joe Gallen told BBC London 94.9:
"These five goals will give the players a lift in terms of their belief in that we can score goals as a team and certain individuals came up today with some good performances in front of goal.
"The last couple of weeks we've not conceded many goals which has been the strength of the team.
"What we want to do is maintain that solidity and of course we need to start adding some goals to our games if we're going to win them."
Tranmere manager John Barnes told BBC Radio Merseyside:
"We made them look like the best side in the division in the first half.
"In possession the passes went astray, which can happen, but there is no excuse for being totally disorganised at the back.
"The concentration is what is going to make you consistent. This should be a lesson to us."
