Exeter bounced back after falling behind to defeat Hartlepool.
Grecians keeper Oscar Jansson rushed from his goal but Matt Taylor knocked the ball beyond him and left Denis Behan with an easy finish.
Ryan Harley equalised for Exeter with a rebound after a Marcus Stewart strike had hit the post.
Stuart Fleetwood put Exeter ahead with a shot that went in off the crossbar before James Dunne scored with a sensational 25-yard half-volley.
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:
"We've had a good day - we put in our work today and on the whole we were quite tight with our play and as a result we forced a victory.
"I'm very pleased the players kept faith and didn't lose too much confidence after that first goal.
"When you go a goal down, you shouldn't panic with an hour to go and we just kept our patience and I was urging them to pass it and they did that."
