Skipper Ian Thomas-Moore eased the pressure on Tranmere boss John Barnes with a stunning winner against Wycombe.
The 33-year-old fired in a sublime volley after 16 minutes as Barnes' side won for the first time in nine games.
Jon-Paul Pittman went close twice for Wycombe and had a header tipped over by keeper Luke Daniels.
After the break, Chris Zebroski headed over for Wycombe and had a shot cleared off the line, while Tranmere striker Michael Ricketts headed onto the bar.
Tranmere manager John Barnes tells BBC Radio Merseyside:
"The victory was very pleasing but the clean sheet is as pleasing. You gives yourselves a chance of winning if you don't concede.
"They (Wycombe) asked us a lot of questions but defensively we worked a lot better as a defensive unit and got blocks in."
