Craig Noone scored a superb long-range strike to earn Exeter City a point.
Leyton Orient were the better side in the first half and took the lead when a 30-yard free-kick from Charlie Daniels took a massive deflection and went in.
Jimmy Smith, Scott McGleish and Adrian Patulea all missed decent headed chances to extend the Orient's lead.
And the Grecians made them pay after the break when Noone launched a 45-yard strike that deceived home keeper Glenn Morris and sailed in.
Leyton Orient manager Geraint Williams told BBC London 94.9:
"We've spoken a lot about the last game. It's been a long week and a bit since Southend away and I thought the lads were magnificent with the way we came out and really attacked at a good tempo and created a number of good opportunities but failed to take them unfortunately.
"We had a bit of fortune with our goal and it evened itself out with theirs.
"That was disappointing because we probably had the best chances of the second half, so although we were disappointed not to get all three points, the reaction after last Friday was magnificent."
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:
"It was a deserved point because we came back into the game and probably had the edge in the second half.
"Although we started slowly I'll give the benefit of the doubt to a lot of the players. It was a slightly different set-up with the winger coming into the side so it took a bit of time to find our pattern.
"Craig Noone got a goal which gave us the point, but he made so much space for himself and contributed so much to our build-up play, I'm very pleased."
