Nicky Forster scored twice as Brighton earned a first away win of the season with victory at Carlisle.
Forster, 36, opened the scoring after the Cumbrians twice failed to clear their lines and he coolly shot past keeper Lenny Pidgeley.
Carlisle had plenty of the the play but could not match it in the final third.
Brighton added a second to wrap up the points as veteran Forster got in ahead of Pidgeley to prod in a cross from Liam Dickinson.
Brighton boss Russell Slade told BBC Sussex:
"Really delighted that all the hard work we've put in so far in the last couple of weeks has paid dividends. Tactically we were quite astute in terms of our defending and we're always a threat on the break.
"We've looked at the long throw a little bit and James Tunnicliffe is a weapon for us and it was important to keep the ball in the danger area which we did. Nicky (Forster) in that area is very good and he got us off to a great start."
