Goals from Jeff Hughes and Chris Lines sealed victory for Bristol Rovers against injury-hit Millwall.
Hughes gave Rovers an early lead from the penalty spot after he had been fould by Millwall's Andy Frampton.
Darryl Duffy, Aaron Lescott and Hughes all had chances to extend Rovers' lead, but failed to beat keeper David Forde.
Debutant keeper Mikkel Andersen saved well from Millwall's Ashley Grimes but the game was won when Lines found the top corner from outside the box.
Bristol Rovers first-team coach Paul Trollope told BBC Radio Bristol:
"I thought it was a professional performance. There wasn't any danger of us not winning the game.
"The main thing was to limit them to few opportunities and apart from one long-range effort the defending was very, very good.
"We tweaked certain elements of pre-season. We wanted a better competitive edge and we've got that. We look highly motivated and look like we've got a great team spirit."
