Bristol Rovers came from behind to make it two away wins in a row and leave Hartlepool without a league victory.
Pools opened the scoring as Denis Behan nodded home from close range for his first goal since his summer move from Irish side Cork City.
Rovers levelled when Jo Kuffour's shot was parried into the path of Aaron Lescott, who ran in to sidefoot home.
Kuffour showed great footwork, turning Hartlepool right-back Peter Hartley inside out before netting the winner.
Bristol Rovers first-team coach Paul Trollope told BBC Radio Bristol:
"The players' attitude, commitment and effort was first class.
"We've played a lot better and lost games. It's an away performance we've not produced too many times.
"We've not hardly passed the ball in the second half. We caught them on the counter-attack a couple of times but we had to be resilient - we had to dig in."
