Charlton won on their first visit to Hartlepool's Victoria Park to make it two victories out of two in League One.
Addicks keeper Rob Elliott saved Denis Behan's fiercely hit shot before Deon Burton lobbed in after Steve Haslam's defensive header fell short.
Lloyd Sam's surging run down the right and cross allowed skipper Nicky Bailey to head in the second at the back post.
Charlton's Therry Racon had a second-half effort cleared off the line while Elliott's save denied Antony Sweeney.
Charlton manager Phil Parkinson told BBC Radio London:
"It was a comfortable victory and I'm pleased because coming to Hartlepool is a real acid test in Division One football.
"The two important things today were the professionalism and the commitment and I thought both were first class.
"The priority for this club this season is to finish near the top of the table."
