Brighton secured their League One status thanks to a winning strike from Nicky Forster against Stockport.
The former Hull and Reading predator came off the bench and struck from six yards after keeper Conrad Logan could only parry a shot from Gary Dicker.
The Seagulls also went close when substitute Calvin Andrew's header bounced on to the top of the bar.
Dutch keeper Michel Kuipers came to Brighton's rescue when he parried a goal-bound shot from Oli Johnson.
