Lloyd Owusu scored in either half as ten-man Brighton kept alive their survival hopes by beating Oldham.
Albion winger Dean Cox broke the deadlock by heading in an Owusu cross at the far post before Owusu doubled the lead with a misdirected header.
Oldham substitute Lewis Alessandra fired home in the second half to give Oldham some hope of a result.
But Owusu slotted home his second to seal the points before Andy Whing was sent off late on for the Seagulls.
