Striker Jo Kuffour struck a 71st-minute volley to secure victory for Bristol Rovers and send Northampton closer to relegation from League One.

Kuffour's deflected volley came about after keeper Chris Dunn had spilled David Pipe's hanging cross under pressure from Rickie Lambert.

Ten minutes earlier Kuffour had shot wide from an equally good chance.

Adebayo Akinfenwa had a late chance to equalise, but headed tamely at Steve Phillips from Liam Davis' cross.
