Leading scorer Gary Hooper steered promotion-chasing Scunthorpe to their second successive home victory with a win over 10-man Brighton.
Matt Sparrow and then Hooper both hit the crossbar for the Iron before the latter drilled home a right-foot shot.
Brighton were reduced to 10 men when centre-back Matt Heath was sent-off for dragging down Hooper in the box.
Midfielder Grant McCann stepped up to fire the penalty past goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen to seal the victory.
