Gary Alexander's strike was enough to get Millwall's stuttering promotion campaign back on track at Southend.
Millwall, going into the match with just one win in seven games, got the only goal of the game when Alexander slammed in from James Henry's cross.
But Southend deserved something from the game, with Peter Clarke hitting a post with a first-half header.
Frankc Moussa and Kevin Betsy also forced decent saves from Lions keeper David Forde, but Millwall held on.
